Playing in San Francisco against a 1-11 49ers team, Todd Bowles‘s club refused to go away quietly after 14-0 and 17-3 first half deficits. Nick Folk‘s 50-yard field goal with 38 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter forced overtime between two of the worst squads in the NFL.

After the Jets stopped a predictable Carlos Hyde B-Gap run on 4th-and-short just across midfield, Bilal Powell finished the game with a hard-fought 19-yard TD run that provided the Jets with the 23-17 victory.

Speaking of Hyde, he was the stat monster on the day. He gashed the Jets defense to the tune of 193 yards on just 17 carries. It started early as Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers were humming after Bryce Petty turned the ball over on the first drive.
Kaepernick started hot but finished with just 133 yards and a score on 15-of-26 passing. Hyde caught the lone Kap TD while Shaun Draughn accounted for San Fran’s lone rushing score.
Due to the early exit of Matt Forte via injury, Powell enjoyed a spectacular day. His 145 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries proved to further show this coaching staff’s incompetence. The man has deserved more touches all season long.
Bryce Petty, starting the first one of the remaining four games, was rather average. He did throw for 257 on 23-of-35 while playing mistake-free football after his first-drive interception, but nothing popped off the charts. On the game-winning drive he did connect for a nice gainer with Robby Anderson that setup the Powell TD. Anderson finished as the Jets leading receiver, 99 yards on six grabs.
After allowing Kelly’s offense to dominate early on, the Jets defense played well. They sacked Kaepernick twice and didn’t allow a single second half point. Along with Forte, Marcus Gilchrist also left the game and didn’t return via injury.
The reason the Jets finished with 23 points having only scored one TD and Folk kicking three field goals is due to a successful 2-point conversion try thanks to a Petty rush on the lone regulation score.
Now sporting a 4-9 record, Petty and the Jets will welcome in the 8-5 Miami Dolphins in Week 15.
