New York Jets thoroughly embarrassed by Andrew Luck's Indianapolis Colts (Highlights)

Todd Bowles‘ New York Jets were thoroughly embarrassed by Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts on MNF for all the world to witness.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for the New York Jets, they go out and do something like this. 

And totally not redeem themselves. In fact, they completely embarrassed themselves.

On Monday Night Football, for all the world to witness, the Jets were humiliated and outclassed by Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts to the tune of 41-10.

They couldn’t tackle. They couldn’t throw. They couldn’t block. They couldn’t run. They couldn’t cover. Oh my goodness, they couldn’t cover.

Luck successfully breezed through Todd Bowles‘ shameful defense on the first two drives, both resulting in a Dwayne Allen touchdown. Even worse was the idea that Allen was wide open on both plays.

From that point on, the garbage ensued.

Luck and Allen hooked up yet again in the second-quarter. This time, at least, Darron Lee did a good job in pass coverage to at least show a little good faith effort on the defensive side of the ball:

The Indy QB star finished with a whopping 278 yards and four touchdowns before Scott Tolzien replaced him in the final quarter. The worst stat, from a Jets point of view, was Luck’s 22-of-28 completion mark. It was too easy for the Stanford grad.

Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets offense was as equally brutal as the defense was. Fitz’s final line turned out to be an ugly 81 yards and one interception on 5-of-12 passing. Matt Forte put up the Jets only early highlight of the night with this 40-yard screen play:

Forte could only muster 25 yards on nine rushing attempts. Even with Nick Mangold back in the lineup, the far below average run defense of the Colts snuffed out many of the Jets rushing attempts.

Brandon Marshall hauled in just four receptions for 43 yards while Quincy Enunwa went for 10 on just one grab. Forte led the team with 54 yards through the air on three catches.

The reason Fitz’s numbers were so incomplete came down to young Bryce Petty starting the second half with New York down 24-3. Petty didn’t fare any better, finishing with 135 yards, two interceptions (both of the horrendus variety), and a late touchdown on 11-of-24 passing.

Petty was wildly inaccurate for most of the second-half. The Jets, however, did allow him to mop up the garbage time yardage through the air.

Darrelle Revis seemingly played in another zip code all night. On the rare occasion he played just five yards off of T.Y. Hilton, it felt as though Revis was in bump-and-run.

Now sitting at 3-9 on the season, the only thing Mike Maccagnan and Woody Johnson can hope for is to lose out and look for a top three pick. Next up will be the also hapless 49ers in San Francisco next Sunday.

Game Notes:

Hilton went for 146 yards on nine receptions and it could have been a lot worse if the Colts didn’t call the dogs off early.

Jets wideout Robby Anderson caught a fourth-quarter TD from Petty, one that went for 40-yards on a post route against single coverage:

Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson were a no-show. Leonard Williams did provide a little something while playing out of position from the nose tackle spot (one sack), but a lack of an edge presence, something we’ve been screaming about for years, continued to haunt the organization on this night.

Colts veteran back Frank Gore rushed for 79 yards on 20 carries. He passed Tony Dorsett for eighth place on the NFL’s all-time rushing list.
