Receiving his first NFL start, quarterback Bryce Petty was unable to lead his New York Jets to victory against the Los Angeles Rams.

It’s unfortunate, too, because Bryce Petty received his first career NFL start and came out on the losing end of things by the final of 9-6.

The young Baylor product had a shot with a little over two minutes remaining but was intercepted by Alec Ogletree on a 10-yard hook intended for Quincy Enunwa.
Petty finished with 163 yards and one TD on 19-32 passing. His lone TD came on trickery dialed up by offensive coordinator Chan Gailey:

On the 99-yard drive Petty connected with his favorite preseason target in Robby Anderson:
.@b_petty14: 9-for-13, 1 TD, 98 yds…

The 9-route by Anderson accounted for 52 of his total 69 yards on three receptions.
With a terrible offensive line, Matt Forte and the ground game was solid. Forte’s 98 yards on 20 carries was a bit surprising. Even more surprising was how conservative Gailey became in the second half after Petty looked so solid in the early going. Powell went for 37 on four attempts.
The Jets were workmanlike on defense all day. They limited the banged up Todd Gurley to 64 yards on three carries.
Three Greg Zuerlein field goals were just enough for Case Keenum to navigate his team to this victory. The reason for unsettling six points on New York’s side — considering the Powell touchdown — came via Nick Folk‘s missed extra point.
With the Jets now all but eliminated from playoff contention at 3-7, they’ll head into their BYE before hosting Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Week 12.
Another week.
