New York Islanders’ John Tavares Tallies First Goal Of Season (Video)

New York Islanders captain John Tavares grabs his first goal of the season thanks to this “gritty beaut” of a goal with Cal Clutterbuck.

The only worse than witnessing the New York Islanders start the season at a disappointing 0-2 — with one of the losses coming at Madison Square Garden at the hands of the dreaded Blueshirts — is watching the captain, John Tavares, struggle mightily.

Tavares has yet to find the back of the net. Even worse, he’s been banged up over the course of these first two contests.

The Isles unabashed leader changed flipped the script in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.

With New York enjoying a slim 1-0 lead over the Anaheim Ducks, Tavares tallied what we like to call a “gritty beaut” of a call with the help of the gritty one himself, Cal Clutterbuck (video above).

Clutterbuck broke his stick yet found a way to kick the puck over to Tavares who found the perfect spot in front of the net to receive such a pass.

The current score is 2-1 in favor of the Isles with just minutes to go in regulation.
