That’s just what he did when he leaped to rob Justin Smoak of a potentially game-winning hit in the Yankees’ hunt for the Wild Card.

With one catch, Gardner provided the resurgent Yankees with some hope that carried them through September in stunning fashion.

Gardner’s catch was not just impressive physically as the energy from the crowd and the excitement from the players showed that they weren’t done yet. No, they had the playoffs on their minds.

Even though they didn’t make it, they sure used these victories to propel them ahead all season long.
