The Boston Red Sox manager did not mince words when discussing how his team went all the way in 2018.
The Boston Red Sox are the annoying little brothers of baseball. They’re constantly pests and whenever they’re better than their elder sibling New York Yankees, they just won’t. Shut. Up. About. It.
Well, the Sawx are the 2018 World Series Champions, and this season is no exception. The team had its victory parade in Boston today, and manager Alex Cora broke out a special kind of trash talk. One clip, in particular, was posted to Twitter in a video from NBC Sports Boston.
Oh really, Alex? That’s what you have to say? Well, considering how this was your first time in the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry since 2008, allow me to enlighten you.
Sure, your Red Sox won 108 games in the regular season. Are we just going to ignore that 52 of those wins came against AL East teams? How about having 43 games in the first half against division rivals? Not sure if you got the memo, Skip, but the East wasn’t exactly competitive this year. It was Boston having a season on Rookie-mode, the Yankees dealing with injuries to key players like Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez, the Tampa Bay Rays overachieving, and the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles just being downright terrible.
Oh, and how about Boston only winning the season series against the Yankees 10-9? What about the Red Sox bullpen being so bad, guys like David Price and Rick Porcello had to pitch in relief just to hold a lead?
Keep talking trash, Alex Cora, because the Yankees never forget such insults. And not only that, the last time the Red Sox put together a magical, World Series champion season, they followed it up by finishing towards the cellar in the AL East.
