The New York Yankees will play a game against the Chicago White Sox at the “Field of Dreams” film site in Iowa in 2020.

Rejoice “Field of Dreams” fans (which should be everybody). The 1989 movie will come to life, kind of.

As announced on Thursday, the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox will play a game next year at the site where the film was shot. The game will be played on Aug. 13, 2020, on the Dyersville farm site in Iowa. The stadium will be a temporary, 8,000-seat venue.

FOX will broadcast the game.

Yes, the Yanks and White Sox will be playing among the cornfields.

“As a sport that is proud of its history linking generations, Major League Baseball is excited to bring a regular season game to the site of Field of Dreams,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said, per Anthony Castrovince of mlb.com. “We look forward to celebrating the movie’s enduring message of how baseball brings people together at this special cornfield in Iowa.”

What an idea. If you’re not on board with the MLB putting something like this together then you need to reevaluate yourself as a sports fan. Everyone should be for this. To be honest, I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner.

It would be cool to have it this year as a way of celebrating the 30th anniversary of the movie. However, 2020 is better than never.

Nonetheless, let the countdown to this very special moment begin. Only 371 days until the first pitch on the Iowa farm site.
