MSG Networks debuted a new show, “MSG 150,” hosted by Bill Pidto, alongside Alan Hahn. New York Rangers HC David Quinn was their guest on Tuesday night’s show.
MSG Networks has begun airing a new show, MSG 150, featuring opinions and expert analysis from a wide range of other network talents, former players, journalists and television personalities, on all the top stories on New York’s teams and the latest news from around the sports world.
Tuesday’s episode featured New York Rangers head coach David Quinn. The first year coach was asked a variety of questions regarding his debut season and the upcoming NHL Draft.
Quinn discussed his perspective on his first year as coach.
“You always learn something whenever you take a new job, whether it’s a coaching job in the National Hockey League or a first-time head coach in college hockey or the American League. There are things you are going to reflect on, things you know you’re going to be better at. One of the things that we feel as a staff is that the familiarity between the players and the coaching staff right from day one will really help us next year. We can’t wait to get going.”
The relationship between the coaching staff and team was a direct result of his open communication that he has with the players. The players were able to have an open relationship with the coach, allowing them to better understand what he was looking for out of them.
This “new” way the organization is working with the players will have positive dividends next season and years to come.
“One of the things that happens when you do scratch a player or give people bad news, you have to build relationships to be able to deliver that news so that players understand it’s for their best interests even though they might not see it at that time. And as a staff, we spend a lot of time building our relationships with our players, so when you do break bad news, they know it’s for their best interests. When your players know that you care about them, there’s a trust factor. And I really felt that there was a trust factor between our players and our staff.”
Of course, the topic of the future Rangers came up. The team owns the second-overall pick along with the 20th selection when the draft is held in Vancouver in late June.
“We’re so excited for the possible additions and the core that we’re going to have coming back. We think that we can really carry over some of the things that we did well throughout the season. We had a bunch of guys that had real good years and possibly career years. And if you add players of that stature and maybe a few more, we feel that we’re going to make the next step.”
Quinn and his coaching staff are optimistic the team can continue to build off of the season from 2018-19. The team has already made moves for next season with the signing of Vitali Kravtsov and Igor Shesterkin. The organization is expected to make some noise when free agency begins, as the team is primed to sign top players and maybe even present an offer sheet to bring players to Broadway.
MSG 150 will serve as the go-to destination for fans looking to stay close to the action during the eventful spring and summer months, especially leading up to the NBA and NHL Draft. Viewers can also expect coverage on all the hot topics across all sports, from football, baseball, golf, boxing and more.
The show will air for 10 weeks, every Monday through Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. ET.
Anson Carter will be the guest on Thursday night’s episode.
