The big man has spoken. Twenty-nineteen will be the final year for New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia.

All the more reason to hunt down that 28th ring, huh Yankees?

Sabathia sat in front of reporters on Saturday afternoon while calmly announcing what many had already speculated. After what will be his 19th season, the southpaw will hang up the cleats and call it a career.

And what a career it has already been. The big man is searching for his 3,000th strikeout this season while already compiling well over 500 wins in his career in Cleveland, Milwaukee and New York.

In a flurry of thank yous, Sabathia touched on the support of his family, his teammates and the entire Yankees organization. The majority of his current teammates sat perched in the audience as well, in support of his address on Saturday.

“All I ever wanted was for people to remember me as a good teammate and, you know, it means a lot to me for you guys to be sitting here today,” Sabathia said.

Sabathia was a key cog in the machine for the Yankees team that dominated the 2009 postseason. While it was his first year in the Bronx, he fit right in and mowed down opponents every time he stepped onto the mound.

Not only was the press conference emotional for long-time Yankees fans, the Yankees took it one step further but released several statements from former players, current players and a few pop culture icons regarding just how valuable Sabathia was to the game.
