The New York Yankees’ main target is still Manny Machado, but recent reports indicate that the mercurial infielder isn’t close to signing yet.

The New York Yankees are still one of the three teams in on Manny Machado. Many are speculating that the Yankees have a great shot at locking up the 26-year-old superstar, but nothing is set in stone yet.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Machado’s agent isn’t in any rush to find a deal. Rosenthal writes:

“In fact, Machado’s agent, Dan Lozano, is barely engaging clubs at the moment, seemingly taking his time and waiting for a team to jump, according to team executives involved in the negotiations.”

This will come as bad news for Yankees fans who are growing antsy. There was some hope that Machado would make his decision after the calendar turned to 2018, but it seems like that won’t be the case.

Rosenthal also notes that Bryce Harper is willing to wait for the right deal. The Yankees certainly have the money to sign Harper and they could use the lefty bat. Perhaps if New York whiffs on Machado, they’ll enter the Harper sweepstakes.

Regardless, the reports indicate that free agency could continue to move at a glacial pace. The market seems like it’s waiting for Machado and Harper to sign before the rest of the dominoes fall.

There is so much speculation around the two superstars, but it feels like anything could happen.
