Spencer Dinwiddie will be returning to Barclays Center for the 2018-2019 season. The Brooklyn Nets have guaranteed his salary for next year.

To the surprise of few, backup point guard Spencer Dinwiddie’s $1.65 million salary has been guaranteed by the Brooklyn Nets.

He averaged 12.6 points, 6.6 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in 80 appearances for his 2017-18 campaign with the team.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was first with the report:

Dinwiddie then responded jokingly, while thanking his head coach and the franchise’s general manager:

Brooklyn’s second-string point guard is referencing a recent Twitter beef with New York Knicks center Enes Kanter.

Nonetheless, there was never any doubt as to if the Nets would guarantee his salary. It was simply a matter of when.

Dinwiddie had a breakout season in Brooklyn, especially once starting point guard D’Angelo Russell sat time after knee surgery.

He averaged 12.9 points and 7.1 assists in December, the month following Russell’s procedure.

Dinwiddie put on a highlight reel through his time as the Nets starter, including this stellar performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers:

He earned a lot of buzz at the trade deadline, and even more for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award. Dinwiddie finished as a finalist for the accolade, but lost to Indiana’s Victor Oladipo.

Now he’ll return to Brooklyn to fill the backup role behind Russell, and on the best deal in the entire NBA market. Watch rumors circle around this budding starter come February.

And until then, go Nets.
