New York Yankees sluggers Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez go back-to-back in the ninth inning to cement a sound victory in Kansas City.

As WFAN’s John Sterling so eloquently bellow out, “Back-to-back, belly-to-belly.” It’s what happened on Saturday night in Kansas City.

First, with a secure 6-3 lead, Giancarlo Stanton stepped in the box prior to smacking a majestic shot near the famed KC waterfall beyond the outfield wall.

Just one batter later, Gary Sanchez hit another solo shot, his 12th of the season and second of the game in cementing the New York Yankees sound 8-3 victory over the Royals.

Ace Luis Severino received the ball from Aaron Boone for this one and did not disappoint. Though he wasn’t his masterful self, the quality start (3 ER, 8 H, 6 K, 6 IP) led to his seventh victory of the season.

Offensively, four total home runs were smacked by the young Bombers. In addition to the back-to-back jobs in the ninth, Gleyber Torres tallied his fourth shot of his young career while Aaron Hicks added another inside-the-park job. Young Torres also managed to make the most of his as it came with two on in the fourth inning immediately after the Royals managed to tie the game at two runs apiece.

Sanchez came away with a team-high four hits on the night including three ribbies. He absolutely set the tone early and then capped it off in the ninth on the back-end of the back-to-back.

For KC, lefty Danny Duffy received the start and was sent to the showers after five runs and just four innings pitched. Both Mike Moustakas and Ryan Goins collected two hits apiece offensively, but little else was accomplished—especially off of the Yankees feared bullpen.

New York bounces back nicely after falling 5-2 on Friday night and will now look to take the rubber-game on Sunday afternoon.
