The New York Yankees are officially 4-0 in spring training with Miguel Andujar proving his worth at the plate, blasting a walk-off shot at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
What infield competition?
Miguel Andujar just blew the New York Yankees out of the water and proved he isn’t just a one-hit wonder. Tonight, he gave the Yankees a 4-0 start to their spring by launching a walk-off blast in the Yankees’ 4-3 victory over the Phillies in Tampa.
While the game wasn’t televised, fans at the contest were able to get some quality video of the shot to left from Andujar, including @Robfeliz. Andujar’s blast came on a two-out, two-strike pitch.
Reminds you a little bit of a moment last season in the big leagues, where veteran Brett Gardner smacked a three-run shot with his back against the wall to pull ahead of the Chicago Cubs.
Andujar was 2-for-2 on the day with both hits for extra bases. So far, in this competition for a starting spot, Andujar has gone 3-for-7 at the plate.
Other standouts on the day include Sonny Gray, who went two strong innings, striking out two in the process, and Jorge Saez, who drove in a run for the second straight game.
Besides Andujar, make sure to keep an eye on Brandon Drury, who went 1-for-2 on the evening with a run scored.
Andujar is in the thick of an infield competition and he’s already showing that last season’s monster debut was no fluke. The 23-year-old went 3-for-4 in that game, with four RBIs.
Hopefully we’ll get a chance to see much more of Andujar not only in spring training but come Opening Day. It seems like this kid is ready for his real shot.
He’ll get his next opportunity during tomorrow’s game, where the Yankees will take on the Toronto Blue Jays at 1:07 PM.
