The New York Mets are in the mix to acquire stud infielder Manny Machado from the Baltimore Orioles this offseason.

According to the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo, the Baltimore Orioles will most likely trade infielder Manny Machado this offseason in the situation where he doesn’t resign.

The New York Mets are interested and are ready to secure themselves another young piece to the puzzle.

After a slow start, Machado’s monstrous summer has resulted in a .273 batting average with 32 home runs and 91 RBI. The 25-year-old is earning less than $12 million this season and will hit free agency following the 2018 season.

New York’s once prized third baseman, David Wright, has seen injury after injury, and this team has had no adequate replacement in his absence. Machado’s presence would change that.

If the Mets can bring Machado in to play next to Amed Rosario, the team would have arguably the best combination at shortstop and third base on both the offensive and defensive end.

Perhaps letting go of all of those veterans will pay off in the long run. Only time will tell.
