New York Mets Infielder T.J. Rivera Shares Baby Gender Reveal With Fans

Nothing, not even a partially torn UCL in his right elbow was going to keep New York Mets infielder TJ Rivera from finding out whether he and his wife are expecting a boy or a girl.

And really, who could blame him? Having a baby is kind of a big deal. While his wife, Ashton, already knew whether they’d be adding a son or a daughter to their family, the currently injured infielder did not.

Gender reveal time!

As you can see in the above video, he crushed a pitch that was high-and-tight, revealing that the Rivera’s are expecting a baby girl. Neither one could contain their excitement over sharing her name.

On his Instagram post, T.J. remarked: “Can’t wait to spoil my little princess Ava Rose #onehanddrill $almostwhiffed #mets #stluciemets #upandin.” Ashton, meanwhile, took to Twitter to share the news:

Ava Rose Rivera. It’s a pretty name, one that has a nice ring to it. Speaking of rings, the Mets won’t be getting any of their own this season. But next year is a different story, which is why Rivera is hoping to avoid Tommy John Surgery. Having the procedure now would likely cost him all of the 2018 season.

Rivera, along with David Wright, is working out at the team’s Single-A affiliate in Port St. Lucie, FL, as they try to ascertain whether either one will be able to return to the big leagues this season.

The 28-year-old Rivera was in the middle of a solid season before going down with the injury. In 73 games, he’s hitting .290 with 19 extra-base hits (five home runs), 27 RBI and a .760 OPS.

Everyone at ESNY congratulates the Rivera family on their upcoming addition!
