ESNY brings you the latest updates regarding the New York Yankees and their pursuit of adding at the trade deadline.
The New York Yankees are deep in conversation with the Oakland Athletics on a potential deal that sends Sonny Gray to the Bronx.
Gray, 29, owns a 3.43 ERA through 16 starts this season including a 1.37 ERA since June 25. He comes in with team control until 2019 and is easily one of the hottest names on the market:
2:57 PM: Done Deal
- According to Jack Curry of the YES Network, the Yankees will acquire Sonny Gray from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for SS/2B Jorge Mateo, OF Dustin Fowler and RHP James Kaprielian.

Previous Updates:
2:23 PM: Look, No Hands!
- While Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports lists the Yankees as a potential buyer for Padres left-handed reliever Brad Hand, a source tells ESNY that Cashman is not expected to land him. This comes as no surprise, as many consider the Sonny Gray trade to be an “all-or-nothing” type of deal. Hand, who San Diego has a high price on, owns an even 2.00 ERA on the year with 70 strikeouts in 54 innings of work.
Hearing that #Yankees aren't in on Hand. #Padres have a hard stance on price. Still hearing it's Gray or nothing (no surprise).

1:44 PM: Sleeper Team?
- Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports speculates that the Brewers have emerged as a potential sleeper team in the Sonny Gray sweepstakes. Although many consider the Yankees to be favorites due to the package they can offer, Milwaukee has some firepower too in prospects like OF Lewis Brinson and OF Corey Ray.
if yanks/a's sonny gray talk drags on, don't be shocked in brewers get involved. they love their prospects, but they love gray, too.

12:50 PM: Chances Growing
- Jon Heyman of FanRag sports went on WFAN and speculated that the chances of Gray ending up a Yankee by the deadline are 80 percent. He also reports some pieces have been agreed to in a potential swap.
goin on @WFAN660 again now. joe and evan, evan and joe

yanks still favorite for gray. some pieces have been agreed to, others working on. a's want 3-4 top guys, next tier below gleyber-frazier

11:41 AM: Greedy Pinstripes
- Sweeny Murti of WFAN reports that while the A’s have stepped down from their asking price of Clint Frazier and Gleyber Torres, a package headlined by Jorge Mateo and Estevan Florial is too steep for general manager Brian Cashman. Mateo is the team’s No. 8 prospect by MLB Pipeline. Florial comes in at No. 5.
A's came off Frazier/Torres package and asked for Florial/Mateo package + more. #Yankees will not make that deal either. 4 hours to go.

11:48 AM: “Gaining More Traction”
- Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that a deal involving Sonny Gray to the Yankees is “gaining more traction,” but is not quite imminent yet.
Hearing Gray to #Yankees is gaining more traction. Still not at finish line, but becoming more than less likely now. #Athletics

10:34 PM: Down to the wire
- A source with knowledge of the negotiations told ESNY that there is no rush for the A’s Billy Beane on the negotiations. If he doesn’t get the package he wants for Sonny Gray, he is expected to hold onto him and take negotiations into the winter.
Source: #Yankees, #As should get deal for Gray done despite standstill on Sunday. Says Beane will, as expected, take his time.
