New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira blasted the 400th home run of his career in the eighth inning of Sunday’s ballgame.
One of the more prolific switch-hitters the game has ever seen just joined some exclusive company.
In the eighth inning of Sunday’s series finale in San Diego, Mark Teixeira hit a towering drive which landed in the right field seats for the 400th home run of his extremely productive offensive career.
With the blast, he joined Mickey Mantle, Eddie Murrary, Chipper Jones, and teammate Carlos Beltran as the only switch-hitters ever to reach the 400 home run mark.
According to Jeff Quagliata of the YES Network, he is the ninth player to accomplish the feat while in a Yankee uniform.
The milestone for Tex gave the Yanks some breathing room, extending the lead to 3-1. Carlos Villanueva was on the mound to surrender the blast that put the 36-year-old on the map with some of baseball’s greats.
