New second-baseman Starlin Castro helped the New York Yankees to a dominating 16-6 victory against the Houston Astros on Wednesday.
- New York Yankees 16 (1-1)
- Houston Astros 6 (1-1)
- AL, Final, Box Score
- Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
“Starlin, my darlin’!”
Whether that was John Sterling’s home run call for Mr. Starlin Castro or not, I’m still not sure. The one thing I do know for sure is that he now deserves a Sterling call.
After welcoming himself to the Bronx with a two-run double in the New York Yankees season opener a day ago, Starlin Castro upped the ante tonight at Yankee Stadium.
The new Yankees’ second-baseman finished 4-for-5 with a run scored and 5 RBI. Three of those runs produced came on one swing in the 2nd-inning.
New York defeated the Houston Astros in a 16-6 slug-fest that saw multiple sticks get involved. Mark Teixeira sent a 3-run Tex-Message over the fence in the 3rd-inning and Carlos Beltran went via the solo variety in the sixth.
Michael Pineda, who wound up with the victory, didn’t fare so well in the box score. He surrendered 6 R, 3 HR, 8 H, and 5 K over 5 IP.
- Win: Michael Pineda (1-0)
- Loss: Colin McHugh (0-1)
- Save: Ivan Nova (1)
New York and Houston will finish the three-game set Thursday night in the rubber-game from the Bronx.
