When closer Andrew Miller was facing AL MVP front-runner Josh Donaldson in the bottom of the ninth-inning with the bases loaded of a 3-3 game, things didn’t look so hot in New York Yankees land. Especially considering Miller had just given up the game tying homerun to Dioner Navarro.

However, Miller prevailed with the swinging strikeout of Donaldson. This setup the conclusion of what was a Yankees youth movement game on full display.

Yankees first-baseman Greg Bird smacked a three-run home run (10) off Mark Lowe, energizing the entire dugout.

The Bird homerun capped off a marvelous night for the youngsters. Not only does Mark Teixeira’s replacement now have 10 home runs in just 121 at-bats, but phenom pitcher Luis Severino pitched another stellar game. Sevy’s six-innings, two runs, three hits and three strikeout performance gives Joe Girardi just one more outing to think about as it pertains to a possible AL Wild Card start.

With the 6-4 victory the Yanks now move to just 2.5 games behind Toronto in the AL East. Both teams will turnaround and play the rubber-game tomorrow night.
