Just two weekends ago the world of the New York Yankees had crumbled faster than anything imaginable. They were swept three-straight in Yankee Stadium by the arch-rival Toronto Blue Jays, and their once potent lineup had made their very own bats disappear in a more qualified way than David Copperfield could ever dream of.
Today, the world through the Yankees fan’s eyes are much different. They have reclaimed their AL East first place position by taking two-of-three against those hated Jays and a three-game sweep with Minnesota in town.
Now it’s on to the Indians.
Terry Francona brings his very disappointing Cleveland Indians into the Bronx tonight to begin a long four-game set that’ll stretch to Sunday.
Ivan Nova and Josh Tomlin will get the party started Thursday night.

The newest Yankee hero, Greg Bird, will play first base and hit sixth in the lineup with Mark Teixeira still ailing from the bone bruise in his right leg. Hopefully the 22-year old youngster has an encore in store for us after his epic two home run game from Wednesday.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi threw a very big name in the same sentence when discussing Bird earlier today, via ESPN:
“I’m not saying this is what my expectation is, but Miguel Cabrera had a slow clock and really had an understanding of what he wanted to do,” said Girardi, who managed Cabrera with the Marlins in 2006. “And I think Greg Bird has an understanding of who he is and what he wants to do.”
Carlos Beltran and Jacoby Ellsbury are a combined 4 for 21 when facing Tomlin, while Alex Rodriguez is just 1 for 14 in this season series. Beltran, however, is hitting .367 with four home runs and eight RBI in his last eight games versus Cleveland.
First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM ET from the Bronx.
