New York Yankees

Today in Toronto young gun Luis Severino looks to help the New York Yankees sweep away the Blue Jays and extend their AL East lead.

Final: Blue Jays 3, Yankees 1

Osuna on to close for the Jays holding a 3-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning.

Still 3-1 Jays going into the bottom of the eighth after reliever Aaron Sanchez works a perfect inning.

Heading into the bottom of the seventh with the score still 3-1 Toronto. Chasen Shreve enters the game for Severino. The phenom finished with 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 9 K over 104 pitches.

Jacoby Ellsbury hits a solo shot in the sixth to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Chase Headley makes tremendous diving catch ranging to his right off the bat of Justin Smoak. They were in a shift so Headley was in shortstop territory.

UPDATE: The E9 originally charged to Beltran for dropping a two-out fly-ball off the bat of Troy Tulowitzki has now been changed to a double. So Severino has been charged with three earned runs.

Thanks to a Carlos Beltran error in right field – in which he lost the ball in the sun – The Blue Jays have plated three runs in the bottom of the third. First came a Josh Donaldson single to right which scored Troy Tulowitzki and then a two-run shot by Jose Bautista.

3-0 Toronto after three. All three runs for Severino were unearned.

Severino already has three strikeouts through his first five batters faced. He looks filthy right now.

Jose Bautista picked off second by Luis Severino to end the Jays threat in the bottom of the first.

Ellsbury caught stealing to end the top of the first.

Jacoby Ellsbury leads the game off with a single off Jays starter Drew Hutchison.

The New York Yankees will send Luis Severino out to the mound as they look to sweep away the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yanks are coming off two straight victories, each of which were highlighted by great starting pitching. Masahiro Tanaka’s complete game 1-run performance on Saturday has since brought up the term “signature game.”

Today they’ll use the regular lineup – Stephen Drew at second base – in conjunction with the flame-throwing Severino.

First pitch is slated for 1:07 PM ET and the game can be seen on YES Network.
