New York Yankees

Whether it’s in the Bronx or Toronto, the Blue Jays keep the domination over the New York Yankees (and the rest of MLB) going.

  • Yankees: 4 (63-51)
  • Blue Jays: 3 (64-53)
  • Win: Ivan Nova (5-4)
  • Loss: Aaron Sanchez (6-5)
  • Save: Andrew Miller (25)

Make it 11-straight wins for the Toronto Blue Jays, and no more. The New York Yankees ventured into Rogers Centre and shocked the former AL East leading Jays by the final of 4-3.

It was Carlos Beltran – one of the greatest postseason hitters MLB has ever seen – who saved the day. His pinch-hit three-run bomb off flame-throwing reliever Aaron Sanchez in the eighth inning lifted the spirits of not only the clubhouse, but every pinstripe fan on the face of the Earth.

For the second straight time against the team who supposedly had his number, it was David Price who pitched phenomenal ball into the eighth inning. His just one run allowed while striking out six over 114 pitches was enough to think the Jays had extended their streak to 12.

After the Beltran gut-shot, Dellin Betances worked a clean eighth. Andrew Miller came in for the ninth and once again made things interesting.

With Jays having runners on second and third with just one out, Miller struck out Ben Revere. The stage was set for a bigtime pitcher-hitter matchup.

Troy Tulowizki against Miller for all the marbles. The 11-game winning streak and the AL East lead on the line.

Tulowitzki fouled off several sliders from the lanky lefty during the at-bat. He battled, as did Miller. With a full-count and AL MVP candidate Josh Donaldson standing in the on-deck circle, Tulowitzki finally struck out on the 13th pitch of the at-bat.

The Yankees have now reclaimed first place in the AL East by 1/2 game. The teams will turnaround quickly and play a matinee on Saturday.
