Sandy Alderson has delivered right-handed power bat Yoenis Cespedes from the Detroit Tigers with only minutes to go before the deadline.

New York Mets Snag Yoenis Cespedes At Last MomentOnly negativity and a miserable outlooks were how New York Mets fans viewed Friday, the day for which the MLB Trade Deadline occurred at 4 pm ET.

Who could blame them after the Carlos Gomez debacle?

As every minute passed by and we inched closer to that 4 pm ET time, Mets fans started validating those thoughts. That was, until, the 24th hour came.

Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reported that Sandy Alderson and the Mets acquired Detroit Tigers outfielder Yoenis Cespedes for two Minor League Mets: pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa.

This is all pending physicals, of course.

CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reported very early that Zack Wheeler was not involved.

What the 29-year old Cespedes brings is right-handed power (something New York desperately needs). While he doesn’t provide the speed on the base-paths or lead-off ability like Gomez would have, his home run potential is immense (18 HR, 61 RBI so far this season). He also brings a strong throwing arm from one of the corner outfield spots.

Because he’s on the final year of his current deal, he is a two month rental, for now.

Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski was put in a spot of desperation, needing to trade the guy prior to the deadline. Alderson cashed in.

With the Tigers currently in Baltimore, it is not out of the question that Cespedes can catch a quick flight and be starting for Terry Collins tonight as his Mets take on the first place Washington Nationals.
