Mike Francesa tweaks Robert Saleh for old times’ sake

The Giants were one horrid end zone interception from Cam Ward from having to put their hard hats on.

“I was about to come do this show and absolutely tear the Giants from limb to limb,” Mike Francesa revealed to start his BetRivers postgame stream following Big Blue’s hold-on-for-dear-life-from-ahead 12-7 win over the Titans on Sunday, “because they were going to lose a game to a terrible team and a terrible head coach.”

But they did not. So the WFAN legend trashed former Jets coach Robert Saleh — now inexplicably the Titans’ head man — instead.

“How bad was Saleh? He gave his gift today again,” Francesa said. “He’s the gift that keeps on giving. Of course they had to mention that he ran the stairs before the game. It’s almost obligatory that that has to be mentioned by the announcer on a Saleh game, that he ran the stairs. Who cares? How about getting a couple of wins?”

It is not an exaggeration to say the Giants would be reeling from an all-time horrid loss if not for Saleh (and some help from former Giants coach Brian Daboll, now Tennessee’s offensive coordinator).

The Titans attempted a failed 59-yard field goal in rain and wind late in the first half (after throwing on third down when they could have run to make it a closer kick) that gave the Giants possession with enough time to tack on Dominic Zvada’s third of four field goals for a 9-0 lead at halftime.

Saleh then went for it on fourth-and-5 from the Giants 7 late in the third quarter and the Titans failed to score, keeping the game at 12-0.

Get three points in either situation and the Titans only need a field goal at the end to win. Get both and they would have already had the game on ice. Instead Ward threw the game away in the waning seconds after a strong second half performance.

“They’re about to leave with a win,” Francesa said. “This was going to be Daboll’s last laugh. This was going to be, ‘Hey, see you later New York.’ This was going to be a huge victory for them in every single way. And a crushing, crushing defeat for the Giants, who would have blown a 12-zip lead to Tennessee. And instead, the Giants get out with an absolute gift. A gift for [coach John] Harbaugh and his coaching staff a the Giants because they didn’t deserve it.”
