Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora believes newly-hired New York Mets manager Carlos Beltrán is the right man for the job.

After what seemed like a lifetime, the New York Mets have finally found a new manager. This week, the Mets hired Carlos Beltrán to take on the role previously held by Mickey Callaway. Beltrán played for the Mets from 2005-11.

But is Beltrán the right man for the job? He has no managing experience prior to this hire. Is the organization overlooking that? Are they too drawn to the fact that he’s a former player for this ballclub? You could definitely make that argument. However, don’t tell Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora that.

“Throughout this process we’ve been talking a lot,” Cora said, per Kevin Kernan of the New York Post. “Carlos did his homework. He prepared and he is ready to go. The Mets have someone who is going to impact that team in a different way.
