New York Yankees claim AL East superiority over Red Sox (Highlights)

Just when the Red Sox had New York Yankee fans questioning their chances, the Yankees quickly changed that narrative.

A night after Chris Sale and the Boston Red Sox dominated in the Bronx, it was Luis Severino and the New York Yankees with the last laugh.
It was the perfect scenario for Aaron Boone, lose a laugher and then come out and put up one of your own, especially with Sevy on the bump. Oh, and it also helped that the Yankees bats erupted for nine runs in the first four innings.
It all started with Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres who gave Severino an early 4-0 lead.

That was really all Severino would need as he took the early lead and just ran with it. The 24-year-old gave the Yankees 6.2 innings allowing just two hits, walking three, and striking out six. He lowered his ERA to 1.98, which is the best ERA in the American League.

But Severino wasn’t the only story a game that saw the Yankees explode for six home runs, three of them from Aaron Hicks out of the leadoff spot. The night also saw the first big league hit for rookie catcher Kyle Higashioka.

The victory puts the Yankees in a tie with Red Sox a top of the American League East. It also gives them their fifth win in nine games on the season, four of those wins coming at Yankee Stadium.
We all know that this is one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports. With both teams coming out of this series with blowout wins, it only makes this rivalry even better and one to watch more closely as the season progresses.
The results will matter at the end of the season, but if every series is played like this weekend’s series, it’s going to be a fun ride to the finish line.
