March of Dimes is honoring CC Sabathia as their “Sportsman of the Year” for his final season with the New York Yankees.

CC Sabathia was honored as the “Sportsman of the Year” by the March of Dimes organization on Tuesday. The New York Yankees legend was presented with the award by Kenny Albert and Gayle King.

March of Dimes is a non-profit that focuses its efforts on the health of newborn babies and mothers.

Every Yankees fan knows that Sabathia is the absolute definition of a gamer. He spent his entire baseball career leaving every ounce of sweat on the field. Sabathia did whatever it took to win every single time he laced up.

He even went so far as to risk his career pitching every chance he got for the 2008 Brewers. Sabathia didn’t care that he had only been traded to Milwaukee midseason or that he was risking hundreds of millions of dollars just a few months before becoming a free agent.

Of course, Sabathia’s impact continued during his time with the Yankees. Even as his skills declined, he found new ways to baffle hitters. He completely revamped his game, featuring backdoor sliders and cutters instead of high 90s fastballs.

Sabathia proved to be the perfect leader in the Yankees clubhouse following the departure of the core four legends. He set the tone with his intensity and always had his teammates’ backs. One would be hard-pressed to pick a better CC moment than the “That’s for you, b—-” incident.

Of course, we can’t let it be forgotten that Sabathia was just two innings away from a $500,000 bonus at that time. Instead of half a million dollars, he chose to stick up for his teammate.

And in 2019, Sabathia threw until his arm literally couldn’t anymore. He was removed from Game 4 of the ALCS after dislocating his shoulder.

The moral of the story is that CC Sabathia is the most deserving recipient of the Sportsman of the Year award that has ever existed. A fantastic honor to send the big guy into retirement.
