New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Tampa Bay.

Not only did the New York Giants secure their first win of the year on Sunday, but their rookie quarterback has something to show for it. Daniel Jones has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 3.

Jones, in his first career start, led the Giants to a 32-31 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccanneers. The Giants came into the second half down 28-10, as Jones’ efforts propelled the Giants to improving their record to 1-2 on the season.

Jones completed 23 of his 36 throws for 336 yards and two touchdowns. Scores through the air were to veteran tight end Evan Engram and veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard. The rookie additionally carried the ball four times for 28 yards and two scores on the ground.

The latter of the two rushing touchdowns was the go-ahead score with just over a minute remaining. The impending Aldrick Rosas extra point gave Big Blue the 32-31 lead.

Jones is now 1-0 as a starter and is also 1-0 when his team is down 18 or more points. In that same type of situation, Eli Manning is 0-44. The largest comeback the two-time Super Bowl MVP ever made was 17 points.

Big Blue’s new starting quarterback will look to build off of this memorable performance and win when they take on Washington this week. The Giants and the winless Redskins kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium this coming Sunday.
