Brooklyn Nets forward Rodions Kurucs has turned himself in and has been arrested for allegedly choking his girlfriend in June.
This looks like the beginning of what could be a downward spiral for Rodions Kurucs‘ basketball career.
On Tuesday, the Brooklyn Nets forward turned himself into authorities and was arrested. Kurucs allegedly choked his girlfriend during an altercation back in June.
The Nets have yet to make a statement on the matter.
The altercation apparently occurred at Kurucs’ apartment on June 27, according to Trevor Boyer and Graham Rayman of the New York Daily News.
Kurucs allegedly screamed that he was going to “kill himself” before choking the girl and forcing her to go to his bed. Then, Kurucs allegedly pushed her, slapped her in the face multiple times, proceeded to bite her lip, and then tossed her onto the bed.
The woman reportedly suffered injuries to her ribs during the alleged altercation.
The 21-year-old Kurucs was released from jail without bail and was ordered to stay away from the alleged victim. He was ultimately charged with obstructing the girl’s breathing and is set to return to court on Oct. 21.
Kurucs is entering his second season in the NBA, with both having been with the Nets. However, it’s unclear how the NBA will handle this situation.
The Nets and the NBA will most likely have a statement on the matter in the coming days, and from there, we’ll get an idea of how the rest of Kurucs’s playing days could play out.
