New York Mets fans are fully embracing Pete Alonso this season, and he has a heartfelt message for everyone who supports him.

Pete Alonso accomplished something that has never been done in franchise history. The rookie passed Carlos Beltran and Todd Hundley for the most home runs in a single season for the New York Mets.

It was a 92-mph fastball from Yu Darvish during the bottom of the fourth inning that Alonso smacked 407 feet to right field for his record-breaking 42nd home run of the season.

Following the game, Alonso had this to say to all the fans that have supported him on his incredible journey:

Alonso has seemingly captured the hearts of Mets fans all across New York this season. In just his first season, Alonso has not only broken the single-season home run record for the Mets, but he’s also set a new rookie record for the most home runs in a single season in the NL as well.

One of the biggest reasons why the Mets are currently in the playoff race is because of Alonso’s production this season. In addition to leading the Mets in home runs, Alonso also leads his team in RBIs, SLG, wOBA, wRC+ and WAR as well this season.

While the offense has seen a lack of production recently, that doesn’t take anything away from Alonso’s historic night. Alonso would surely love to win the home run title during his rookie season. He’s currently tied with Cody Bellinger for the lead in the NL, and he’s just one behind Mike Trout for the MLB lead as well.

However, Alonso would definitely prefer to see his team back in the playoffs this season. The Mets are currently three games behind the Chicago Cubs for the second Wild Card spot. With just over a month left in the season, Alonso would love to be one of the key reasons for the Mets’ return to the playoffs.
