New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur responds to Baker Mayfield’s recent comments about the draft selection of Daniel Jones.

This week, Clay Skipper of GQ profiled Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. Within the interview, Mayfield gave his thoughts regarding the New York Giants‘ selection of Daniel Jones in this year’s NFL Draft.

“I cannot believe the Giants took Daniel Jones,” Mayfield said. “Blows my mind.”

Yes, he continues to trash the Giants. However, Big Blue head coach Pat Shurmur isn’t amused by what the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback had to say.

Ultimately, Shurmur doesn’t believe the shot by Mayfield has any creativity to it.

Additionally, Shurmur supported his current backup quarterback and has sided with him and his demeanor.

Shurmur does have an opinion on it, but this situation isn’t something that’s going to be on his mind for too long. He has a lot of other things to focus on than an opposing quarterback making a rookie the target of trash talk. That’s just the reality of it.

Mayfield should focus more on getting his team to the playoffs this year. That should be the only thing on his mind right now. He’s entitled to his own opinion, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to be broadcast to the world in a GQ article.

Say what you want about Jones, he’s impressed thus far for the most part through the first two preseason games. He’s combined to complete 16 of his 19 throws for 228 yards and two touchdowns. He hasn’t thrown a pick yet, but he did lose two fumbles in their last exhibition game against the Chicago Bears.
