The scooter you see is the scooter Durant is using in order to help nurse the ruptured Achilles he sustained in this past NBA Finals. The Brooklyn Nets acquired him in a sign-and-trade with the Golden State Warriors. Durant will be playing under a four-year, $164 million deal.

Durant’s timetable for his return to basketball is unclear at this point, and Nets general manager Sean Marks is ultimately leaving the decision up to the man himself. I’m no doctor, but usually, a ruptured Achilles takes a significant amount of time to get back to full strength. That being said, Durant may miss most, or possibly even all, of the 2019-20 season.

In 12 seasons in the NBA (nine with the Seattle Sonics/Oklahoma City Thunder, three with the Warriors), Durant is averaging 27 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. He’s doing this all on 49.3% shooting from the field and 38.1% from behind the arc.

Until his return, the Nets will be led by weapons such as newly-acquired Kyrie Irving and Spencer Dinwiddie. Brooklyn also acquired former All-Star center DeAndre Jordan this offseason. It’s still unclear what Jordan’s role will be this season, as he could be a weapon coming off the bench for them.
