New York Giants rookie CB DeAndre Baker buys his mom a new car (Video)

New York Giants rookie cornerback DeAndre Baker buys his mother a Bentley less than a few weeks after he signed his first contract.

On June 14, less than two weeks ago, the New York Giants signed DeAndre Baker to a rookie contract. Baker, a cornerback from the University of Georgia, was taken in the first round at No. 30 overall. The Giants actually traded back into the first round to select him.

When some athletes sign their first contract, their first purchase is something for themselves so they can “flex” after finally making it to the NFL. However, Baker went ahead and bought a Bentley for his mom. His mother, as I’m sure any mother would, couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the new car with the ribbon on top.

Watching newly-signed draft picks give back to friends and family is always one of more underrated parts of the offseason. Baker’s gift to his mother is just another example of this.

Baker is expected to come in and play a lot early on for the Giants. However, he’ll need to put the work in. He has an opportunity to come in and be a major contributor, but he’ll have plenty of competition for playing time.

While Janoris Jenkins will most likely retain his spot as the strong side cornerback, there’ll be some competition for that weak side corner spot. Baker, Sam Beal, and rookie Julian Love will all be competing for that starting job. Defensive coordinator James Bettcher will have a bunch of young corners to work with during his second year with the Giants.
