New York Jets free safety Marcus Maye fires back at Tyran Mathieu’s Todd Bowles‘s “truth bomb” relating to the 2018 NFL offseason.

The Marcus Maye-Tyran Mathieu situation has officially turned legit.

Mathieu, the now Kansas City Chiefs safety, was rumored to sign with the New York Jets last offseason. Apparently, it didn’t work out thanks to head coach Todd Bowles’s assertion that his current free safety, Maye, was better.

Mathieu let everybody in on the information in a social media reply.

Is it true? Who knows. It makes sense considering Mathieu wouldn’t want to serve as the third safety in sub-package (Big Dime) situations. If he were to sign with New York, he’d probably be targeting the free safety spot. Apparently, the Jets chose Maye.

Catching wind of the comments, the Florida product fired his own shots at the LSU man on Twitter.

The SEC has gone crazy in the league that plays for pay.

Maye, 26, is set to enter his third NFL season. After an impressive rookie performance that saw him post two interceptions and 78 total tackles, the second-round selection could muster just six games played a year ago. Health has become a major concern.

Speaking of health, meet Mathieu’s big-boy career. Over six NFL seasons, the former third-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals has participated in just 82 games (of a possible 96). After a one-year stint in Houston with the Texans, he’s now in Kansas City.

SEC boys will be SEC boys. The Marcus Maye-Tyrann Mathieu convo may have only just begun.
