Despite earlier reports, the New York Jets appear to be unified in how they plan to approach Le’Veon Bell in free agency.

Le’Veon Bell is the undisputed king of the 2019 free agent class. He’s the top player on the market and he’s long been rumored to be a potential target of the New York Jets.

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, the Jets sound unified in their approach to free agency, and more specifically, Bell.

“Per a league source, the Jets are unified on their approach to the soon-to-be-former Steelers standout,” writes Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “The source strongly disputed the report from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News suggesting that a schism exists within organization regarding Bell.”

Mehta’s earlier report stated that Jets brass wasn’t on the same page when it concerns Bell. The report specifically mentioned Bell’s high price tag in addition to his mileage and history.

But according to Florio, while the Jets appear undivided on Bell, it’s unclear if that means they are going all-in on the uber-talented back or they plan to stay away.

Bell sat out the entire 2018 season for the Pittsburgh Steelers after he was dissatisfied with his contract situation. The shifty back wanted long-term stability after being named first-team All-Pro in 2017. It was his second time being named first-team.

Although he comes with some red flags, Bell could be exactly the type of playmaker Sam Darnold needs. Furthermore, the 21-year-old quarterback is still on his rookie contract. In other words, the Jets can spend the money typically tied up in a quarterback on other needs.

That’s what makes this summer the perfect time for the Jets to pounce on Bell, even if it means paying a premium for a running back.
