For the first time since his Week 9 injury, Sam Darnold was an active participant in New York Jets practice, as the team opened prep for Tennessee.

FLORHAM PARK, NEW JERSEYSam Darnold was an active participant in New York Jets practice on Wednesday afternoon, as the team prepares for a Sunday showdown against the Tennessee Titans (4:05 p.m. ET, CBS).

Darnold was again dressed in his helmet and black practice jersey, but this time took throws along with fellow quarterbacks Josh McCown and Davis Webb.

It was the first practice action Darnold had partaken in since suffering a foot injury in the Jets’ visit to Miami on Nov 4. He was dressed for practice in the week leading up to last week’s visit from the New England Patriots, but did not participate.

After throwing with McCown and Webb individually, Darnold joined the rest of the offense in a team drill where McCown appeared to take the first-team reps. McCown, in his second year with the Jets, has been the team’s starter for the past two games, throwing for 411 yards in losses to Buffalo and New England.

The veteran McCown sustained a mild thumb injury during the first offensive drive on Sunday, but said it did not affect him for the rest of the game.

“(Darnold’s) getting better. We’ll see on Wednesday,” head coach Todd Bowles said during a Monday afternoon conference call. “It will be good for him just to play. The more games he can play, the better off he will be. Obviously, he’s got to get healthy first and he has to practice so he can get back used to the routine again and then we’ll see from there. But it’s important for him to get reps.”

“We’ll see how it goes, I don’t comment on his injury status,” McCown said about his status this week. “I just get ready to go as usual and we’ll see what happens.”

UPDATE: 4:45 p.m. ET:

Both Darnold and McCown were listed as “limited” on the post-practice injury report. Darnold was in good spirit in meeting with the media afterward, mentioning he felt “great” and was “anxious” to see how he was feeling on Thursday.

“(My foot) feels really good. I felt really good today,” Darnold said. “I’m just going to continue today what I can do to get better.” He added that he’s “hopeful” to play on Sunday in Nashville.
