New York Mets 3B Todd Frazier makes insane catch (Video)

New York Mets third baseman Todd Frazier made an incredible diving catch into the stands Monday night against the Dodgers.

New York Mets third baseman Todd Frazier grew up in New Jersey (just in case you’ve been living under a rock and didn’t know that). He also idolized Yankees superstar Derek Jeter (just in case that rock you live under is on Mars and you never heard that).

Frazier, whose season has been interrupted by two separate stints on the disabled list, showed some skills he learned from watching Jeter on Monday night. Frazier made an impressive diving catch over the wall in foul territory behind third base.

Frazier tracked the ball to the wall and actually made the catch while still in the field of play, but his momentum carried him over the low wall and into the first row. Him holding onto the ball after taking a tumble over the wall is no small feat.

It wasn’t quite as impressive as Jeter’s catch, which was in a playoff game while moving over from shortstop. Additionally, Jeter made the catch while going over the wall, while Frazier grabbed it and then went over the wall. However, it was still an impressive grab by Frazier.

Frazier has had a frustrating season, as has every seemingly Met except Jacob deGrom, who has been so good he’s got other pitchers arguing for him to win the Cy Young.

Frazier was signed to provide veteran leadership and fill the hole at third base that has been left by David Wright’s injuries. While he’s provided veteran leadership to the team, he’s struggled to produce at the level he’s accustomed to.

His .228/.306/.414 slash line is below his career total of .244/.319/.455, due in part to injuries forcing him to miss time. He’s been limited to 92 games, which is his career low. It’s the second time he’s played less than 145 games, with the first being his rookie season.

He, like the Mets, will be hoping to bounce back next season. However, his catch Monday night will be a good memory in a season filled with bad ones.
