New York Yankees video: Didi Gregorius makes sick play at shortstop

Derek Jeter who? Didi Gregorius has been making a fair share of impressive plays to make the New York Yankees ALMOST be able to forget about No. 2.

Shortstop for the New York Yankees had been manned by Derek Jeter for far too many years. In fact, any time the position is mentioned, the name Jeter comes to mind.

Recently, Yankees fans have been forgetting about Jeter when they see just how stellar Didi Gregorius is in taking over for the Captain.

That talent was on full display on Sunday afternoon when Gregorius made a nifty stop and a strong throw while falling over to nab CF Delino Deshields.

It’s official if it wasn’t before. Brian Cashman absolutely fleeced the entire sport by working that three-way trade to bring Gregorius to the Bronx.

And, naturally, after the game, Gregorius took to the media and gave credit to everyone but himself, even after he added his 21st home run of the season during the Yankees’ win.

What did we do to deserve this gem of a player in the Bronx? And how lucky are the Yankees to have two franchise shortstops in a row who can make amazing plays and still be insanely clutch at the plate?

Gregorius started out the season strong and fell off the map for a while. Overall, his season is picking up just when the Yankees need it most. In the month of August, he’s played in 11 games and has a .318 batting average with three home runs.

Didi Gregorius won’t praise himself so that means we will just have to. If he keeps putting performances together like he did on Sunday afternoon, it won’t be a struggle at all.

Right now, Didi Gregorius ranks third in home runs by shortstops this season, behind only Francisco Lindor and Trevor Story. But besides the obvious, Gregorius also has 10 stolen bases this year, which is a new career-high for the awesome shortstop.

Didi, keep doing your thing in the field and we’ll keep watching in awe. You may not be Derek Jeter but your play speaks for itself.
