Cleveland Cavaliers star forward LeBron James has been chosen as the cover athlete for this year’s NBA 2K19 20th Anniversary Edition.

The cover athlete for NBA 2K19 has finally been revealed. According to NBA.com early Tuesday morning, LeBron James was chosen as the cover for the critically acclaimed hit video game series.

It will be his second time gracing the cover, as he was also featured on 2014’s rendition of the game. That specific game had a special game mode pertaining to James as well, titled “LeBron: Path to Greatness.” Past covers have featured stars such as Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Paul George and Kyrie Irving. However, this year’s game is a little more meaningful.

NBA 2k will be celebrating 20 years in the spotlight, by releasing a special 20th Anniversary Edition. Set to release on Sept. 7, the anniversary edition will include 100,000 Virtual Currency for the 2K Store, a LeBron MyCOURT design, the King’s collection, which features Nike LeBron apparel along with 25 pairs of LeBron sneakers, plus much more.

“We were able to do something really unique for the cover that represents everything that drives me and inspires me — from my family to where I come from and words I live by,” James told NBA.com.

The cover itself features LeBron’s face, surrounded by numerous quotes such as “Strive for Greatness” and “G.O.A.T..” It doesn’t feature LeBron in any specific team uniform, however. This is most likely to avoid the problem 2k had last year with their cover picture. For NBA 2k18, Kyrie Irving was originally featured on the cover in a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey. However, they had to change the entire cover following the trade of Irving to the Boston Celtics.

With LeBron’s free agency period coming this summer, there’s a chance he won’t be in a Cavs jersey next season. Nor do fans know what jersey he will be in at all. What fans do know though is this video game will be one for the books. It will continue the legacy of how great the NBA 2k series has always been.
