New York Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. can’t seem to stay out of his own way when it comes to making poor decisions.
A video surfaced Friday of New York Giants‘ superstar receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in a somewhat compromising position. OBJ is seen laying in bed with what appears to be a blunt in his left hand. Unlike the pizza box sitting atop the covers, that’s a big deal.
So too is the white substance that his female companion appears to be breaking up into lines with a credit card. The only audio in the short clip is of Beckham, who appears to be speaking to the woman about “trying to get you to sleep with someone…”
According to Pat Leonard and Nicholas Parco of the New York Daily News, the Giants are aware of the video but had no official comment on it. Beckham’s agent, Zeke Sandhu, has yet to remark on his client’s behavior either.
While it’s possible to explain that away, it’s going to be incredibly difficult to do so. It sure looks like a blunt in OBJ’s hand, and let’s just say that you don’t use a credit card to apply baby powder.
This, of course, isn’t the first time Beckham’s actions have found him under the microscope. Who can forget his street fight with Carolina’s Josh Norman in 2015?
That resulted in a one-week suspension.
There was the time he kicked new Giants linebacker Alec Ogletree after a late hit. Or the time he attacked a kicking net on the sideline, only to have it retaliate and give him a black eye. Or the time he put a hole in the wall in Green Bay.
That last incident, of course, was preceded by one of the most infamous photos in recent history—a shirtless OBJ and the rest of the Giants receivers on the front of a yacht in Miami. During that trip, a video emerged that seemed to show Sterling Shepard having to turn down Adderall.
It will be interesting to see how the Giants’ new regime—general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur—handle this and any other situations involving Beckham moving forward.
Will they give him a pass due to his game-changing ability? Or will they send a message that nonsense like this simply will not be tolerated?
The answer to that will go a long way toward telling us whether they are truly committed to changing the organization’s culture.
