The New York Yankees officially made their first cuts from Spring Training on Thursday afternoon and some answers have been provided.
Thursday afternoon wasn’t just a game day for the New York Yankees. It also marked the first round of cuts from spring training for the Bombers.
While one young ace was tearing up the mound for the Yankees against the Philadelphia Phillies (Luis Severino), a few more got sentenced to an early exit from camp.
Among those in the cuts were pitchers Justus Sheffield and Dillon Tate.
Following today’s game, the Yankees reassigned the following players to minor league camp:
RHP Cale Coshow
RHP Raynel Espinal
LHP Trevor Lane
C Chace Numata
LHP Justus Sheffield
RHP Dillon Tate— New York Yankees (@Yankees) March 8, 2018
No surprises here, as these guys will certainly benefit from some time down in minor league camp. Who knows? We could even potentially see some of these guys up in Triple-A. They’re good but they need some more time to develop.
The Yankees also got some social media attention thanks to a few young fans attending Wednesday’s Yankees-Mets contest in Port St. Lucie, FL. Apparently, a few fans got caught up in the rivalry.

I don’t know about you, but I could watch this all day long. These kids are adorable and although the Mets won this battle, they lost both on the field and on Twitter at the hands of the New York Yankees.
The only winner wearing blue yesterday.

Ouch, babe. At least we learned a valuable lesson here today. The Big Brother always wins. Sorry, little guys!
Now, let’s end this buzz with some highlights from Thursday afternoon’s game. Perhaps one of the most incredible highlights of yesterday’s contest was our good friend, Sir Didi Gregorius, hitting his first of hopefully many home runs in 2018.

What a sweet swing from the powerful lefty! Gregorius launched 25 home runs during the regular season in 2017, including three massive home runs during the playoffs.
How about Giancarlo Stanton? No, he did not launch a home run. Instead, he destroyed a pitch to right field with the bases juiced to drive in two runs Thursday afternoon.
Now, imagine the short porch at Yankee Stadium. Yup, that is terrifying.
Bases loaded for @Giancarlo818…
You know runs are about to score.
