She did it! Mets surprise Callie with celebration for 500,000 retweets (Video)

Take your shots at the New York Mets when it comes to baseball, but the team proved it knows how to make a fan feel like a queen.

On Jan. 19, a high school senior—and New York Mets fan—named Callie sent her favorite team a message asking how many retweets it would take for her to be able to take her prom pictures at Citi Field. The team responded with a lofty number—500,000.

The tweet took off, as Mets fans and others on Twitter spread the word to help Callie get her prom pictures. Just over a week later, on Jan. 27, she met the goal.

Monday, the Mets surprised her at school, with Mr. Met holding a boombox over his head playing the Mets’ theme song, holding a sign that read “Prom?” and then presenting her with a bouquet of pink roses. Her big day at Citi Field will take place on May 18.

As luck has it, the Mets will be in the midst of a homestand that day, opening a weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Perhaps some of the players, including stud pitcher Noah Syndergaard, who is a key to the team’s chances in 2018 and is very active with fans, would be willing to join in on the festivities.

Syndergaard could probably convince his former roommate Michael Conforto, or his fellow pitcher Jacob deGrom, who is open to staying with the team long-term, to take some pictures as well.

If she’s really lucky, team legend Mike Piazza will be in the area the day she’s taking the pictures and will come to the field. Piazza, who ESNY’s Justin Birnbaum recently compared to David Wright, talked during his number retirement ceremony about how much Mets fans mean to him. This would be a really cool way to show that.

Ultimately, this is a great way for the team to reach out to a fan base that is somewhat annoyed with their lack of activity on the market this offseason. This is a good way for the team to show that they still care about their fans. Hopefully, she’ll not only get her prom pictures on May 18 but get to watch the Mets win as well.
