New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. supposedly looks right at the solar eclipse without wearing glasses.
If you look across social media platforms, the biggest craze has been the solar eclipse. It appeared as though everyone wanted to take a look — including New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
In a video posted to his Instagram page, Beckham asks teammate Brad Wing, “how long you ain’t supposed to look at it” while squinting his eyes. Of course, looking straight at a solar eclipse without glasses is dangerous.
“There are serious risks associated with viewing a solar eclipse directly, even when using solar filter glasses,” Michael Schecter, an optometrist said in a Facebook post, per Josh Hafner of USA Today. “Just seconds of exposure to a partial eclipse can burn a blind spot right to your most precious central vision.”
On the surface, it seems like one of the top wide receivers in football was messing around. But Beckham did defend himself in his Instagram posts.
“My only problem with all this is they’re going to tell you they got an eclipse,” he said. “It only comes around once in forever and they don’t want you looking at it. You just told me we got an eclipse and you don’t want me looking at it? You know what’s crazy? Even after looking at the eclipse, I still can see all these haters.”
The Giants have a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns tonight. I guess if Odell doesn’t make any catches or drops passes during tonight’s game, then we can blame it on the eclipse.
