Kevin Klein Officially Retires

The New York Rangers continue their offseason of change as Kevin Klein officially retired from the NHL. Klein, who spent most of his time with the Nashville Predators and the New York Rangers had this to say to his beloved fans.

As always, when a Blueshirt is traded, lost to free agency, or retires, we take a moment to pay tribute to everything that player has given to the organization. Klein, a warrior on the ice, will be remembered most for his grit, knack for a timely goal, and of course that insane hair. The New York Rangers put together a nice video of Klein’s greatest moments. Stick taps to Kleiner! All the best to you and your Family!

The retirement will free up $2.9 million in cap space for the Blueshirts. Their available cap space now climbs up to just shy of $8.5 million.

The Rangers still have to sign restricted free agent Mika Zibanejad, who recently filed for salary arbitration. This strategic move is standard in today’s NHL, expect a deal to be made soon.

The Blueshirts have seven NHL-ready defensemen on the roster and are still missing a natural centerman in the lineup. Gorton is likely making calls to try and deal Nick Holden for NHL caliber centers. Tyler Bozak has been a name floating around for quite some time now. The excess salary cap the Rangers are holding onto could play a crucial role in retaining salary for any potential trade targets.

This offseason has proven Gorton’s worth as an NHL general manager. If more moves are to come and he is able to bolster the offense he has accomplished a great deal this offseason.

Is it October yet?
