Following a series-opening win, the New York Yankees look to make it three in a row against the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium.

The New York Yankees (26-16) will look to extend their home record to 14-6 as they look to take down the Kansas City Royals (18-26) for the second consecutive night.

Getting the start for the Yankees will be 25-year-old left-hander Jordan Montgomery, who has tailed off in his last two starts. Since May 12, he has maintained a 7.36 ERA in 11 innings of work while surrendering just over a hit per inning.

His latest start came in Kansas City on Thursday, where Montgomery let up five runs in five innings including a home run to Mike Moustakas.

Danny Duffy will go for KC, coming off a start on that same day where he tossed seven shutout innings and struck out 10 Yankees — eight on sliders — in an eventual 5-1 Royals’ win at Kauffman Stadium.

Lineups:

Player To Watch: Didi Gregorius

Didi went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs off Royals starter Jason Vargas on Monday night, spiking his 2017 batting average up to .385 (10-for-26) with a double, home run and six RBIs off southpaws — .333 (58-for-174) against them since the start of 2016.

On Tuesday, the Royals are throwing another left-hander on the mound in Danny Duffy. Gregorius hasn’t gotten a hit off the 28-year-old in three career at-bats, but his .987 OPS against lefties this season gives us an indication that there could be something special in store.

Bronx Bombers:

In Monday night’s 4-2 win, the Yankees smacked three home runs for the eighth time this season, a mark they didn’t reach until June 8 last season. Furthermore, their total of 66 home runs this season matches their third-highest total through the first 42 games of the season (69 HR in ’09, 68 HR in ’02 and 66 HR in ’03).

This Day In Yankees History:

On May 23, 1948, Joe DiMaggio recorded his second of three career three-homer games in a 6-5 victory at Cleveland. His third dinger came off Bob Muncrief in the top of the eighth.
