The New York Mets’ glaring problem that must be addressed 1

The following is a collection of fan comments related to the New York Mets that’ll first make you laugh hysterically and then cry too hard.

As the New York Mets prepared to take on the Atlanta Braves for what was then the first of a two games series, SNY’s Steve Gelbs and WOR’s Wayne Randazzo took a few minutes this afternoon to give a low key update on Facebook Live on the currently happenings in Metsville.

Below are a few fan comments with some responses, ESNY style:

1. Trade Lucas Duda, he’s Overrated

I agree, but not going to happen. If the Mets were going to trade a veteran they would have done it during the offseason or spring training. Contenting teams don’t trade veterans in season unless its a trash for trash deal and while Duda is streaky he isn’t at a trash level.

2. Get rid of Curtis Granderson

Same issue with Duda, not going to happen in season. As long as this team contends, and they will.

3. At end of year, Mets need to sign Mike Moustakas or Eric Hosmer. David Wright is done.

Would love to get Hosmer, one of my five favorite non-Mets. With Dominic Smith set to take over 1B and the money it would take to sign him (Scott Boras client), I don’t see it happening.

4. Terry Collins has been Blessed, a Smoke and Mirrors Bad Manager

This is a ridiculous statement, Collins has been one of the most successful managers in Mets history, has kept this team together for six-plus years and has never lost the clubhouse, a very hard to do. He doesn’t accept failure and knows how to treat each player on an individual basis and gets them to play as a team, everyday — very good manager qualities.

5. Collins needs to get more aggressive on the bases and stop depending on the long ball. Let’s play smart, we have a win now team.

I would love to see the Mets do this, unfortunately, this is the kind of team he was given. He can only make due with what he has. No team speed, power-built lineup.

6. What would Josh Donaldson cost us? FA end of season and Toronto may be sellers — send them D Smith?

Why? He has a serious calf injury and makes $17 Million this year. He has one more year of arbitration next year before he becomes a free agent and he will get a hefty raise in arbitration in 2018. He is not what this team needs.

7. New conditioning coach, new batting coach

Injuries have become an epidemic throughout the sport. If the Mets have to fire their conditioning staff than the Dodgers, Athletics, Padres, Rockies, Reds, Braves and Angels would have to as well. Those eight teams are at the top of the list in injuries every year. Mets have a streaky lineup, that is what they are. A new hitting coach isn’t going to change that.
