New York Yankees part-owner and co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner is set to host the Third Annual Hank’s Yanks Golf Classic at the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point.

The Third Annual Hank’s Yanks Golf Classic, hosted by New York Yankees part-owner and co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner, will take place on June 5 at the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in the Bronx, New York.

The event will feature a golf tournament played by former Yankees and celebrities in an effort to raise money in support of the Hank’s Yanks Baseball Foundation.

The Hank’s Yanks, a non-profit organization that supports both the baseball activities as well as the community outreach work of young ballplayers, strives to provide an opportunity for individuals to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing the game of baseball.

The organization was founded in 2009 and its baseball teams are made up of a dedicated group of kids from all walks of life to not only play at a high level of travel baseball, but to also perform both individual and group community service projects throughout the year.

For many of them, baseball is a way to keep them going in the right direction.

“The kids have to keep a certain GPA to stay on the team and perform a certain community service hours also so they’re giving back to the community,” said Mike Walsh, the director of the golf tournament. “What we do at the golf tournament is help raise funds for them to go play in tournaments and we help them pay for the fees.”

The tournament will include a dinner and silent auction, will bring together elite business owners, celebrities, philanthropists, dignitaries and athletes with a purpose to raise funds. Since the tournament started in 2015, several former and current Yankees have made an appearance including CC Sabathia, Tino Martinez, Darryl Strawberry, David Cone, Goose Gossage, Orlando Hernandez, Jim Leyritz and more.

“We serve as the ambassadors to basically try and bring out more and more golfers to spend time with former champions that they grew up rooting for,” Jim Leyritz, who will attend the outing for the third consecutive year, said.

No matter the number of prestigious names that attend the outing, however, it all comes back to the kids.

“It’s all about giving hope to those who may not have it. [The Hank’s Yanks] is a different avenue for them to work out frustrations or joy,” Leyritz said. “There are so many different things that [kids] can gain by being a part of something that they normally wouldn’t be able to afford. Mike ‘Red’ Walsh does a great job putting this tournament together for Hank and raising the money for these kids and it’s a great opportunity for us to help.”
