Despite a strong night from Sean Kilpatrick, the Brooklyn Nets couldn’t take out Chris Paul and the Los Angeles Clippers at Barclays Center.

For three-plus quarters it seemed as though everything that we thought would happen, happened. The Los Angeles Clippers were cruising to a victory at the Barclays Center.

Interestingly enough, what we thought didn’t matter once the fourth quarter came around.

After trailing 86-73 heading into the fourth, the Brooklyn Nets outscored the Clippers 34-21 in the final frame. Brook Lopez, who poured in 27 on the night while snagging eight rebounds, hit a clutch, top of the key three-pointer during the late stages that looked as though was going to be the game-winner:

It turned out, it wasn’t. That’s because Chris Paul took his time to come through clutch with this corner trey:

The first overtime frame featured more of what the Nets displayed in the fourth quarter and Sean Kilpatrick cemented his best game of the season with 38 remarkable points.

Again, though, the fans in Brooklyn were thrown a curveball. After a foul on Kilpatrick, Doc Rivers was called for a technical and booted. Rookie Isaiah Whitehead was called on to shoot the free throws. He missed both. Kilpatrick could then only make one of two. It allowed the Clippers, again, to tie the game and force another overtime after Jamal Crawford nailed this trey:

Finally, Brooklyn took control in the second OT and overcame the missed free throws.

The Nets now move to 5-12 on the season with the upset win that snapped their rough eight-game losing streak. They’ll next welcome in old friend Jason Kidd and the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night.
