The New York Mets Double-A affiliate, the Binghamton Mets have changed their name to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
Talk about intimidating…
According to the New York Mets‘ Tumblr page, the Double-A affiliate, Binghamton Mets, changed their name on Thursday at NYSEG Stadium during a ceremony attended by 700 students, teachers, and administrators from local Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.
The post says Nicole of Binghamton earned the winning name following a fan vote that heavily favored the newest team name.
The Rumble Ponies will start their inaugural season on the road in New Hampshire on April 6 before the home opener at NYSEG Stadium on April 13.
It’s great that the organization became creative in moving on from a basic “Mets” attached to Binghampton, but it’s going to take the whole Double-A roster some time to get used to saying: “I play for the Rumble Ponies.”
