New York Mets infielder Kelly Johnson came through in the most important at-bat of the season, clearing the bases with a double.
Citi Field hasn’t had the same energy as it did in 2015. Well, what a difference a week makes.
Kelly Johnson sent the Citi Field faithful into raptures during the bottom of the eighth inning during Wednesday night’s game. His bases clearing double during the apex of the game continued what has been a high energy home field since the Mets returned to Queens last Friday.
How many good things can you say about Johnson? Whether it was last year, this year, or just this home-stand, the veteran has come up clutch on countless occasions.
Neil Walker‘s back issues mean we could see much more of Johnson for the remainder of the season. Whatever the situation has called for, KJ has answered the bell.
The crowds are growing larger. The volume and intensity are rising. Tomorrow marks the first of September and the New York Mets won’t plan on quitting any time soon. Given how the team has struggled with men on base, there aren’t many others you’d want up then Johnson.
